Separate And Equal....

You never realize your blackness and nationality until you come to the West. The West loves to label people and put them in boxes, maybe that's one thing that helped Obama become President as he fits more than one box. Anyway the picture above is from one of my favorite Asian stores that I shop at, in regular stores here food "ethnic" people such as myself eat has it's own section but in this store the "ethnic" people are white and European so have their own small food section.

I have often heard people grouse in the media about immigrants not integrating, when in reality they do not realize how insular society in the West is. People for the most part are comfortable among their own, which is normal, we all prefer to spend time with people we can relate to, who sound like us and who look like us. Integration for me is a byword for minorities and immigrants to jettison the things about them that mainstream doesn't like so that the mainstream can be comfortable.

It's like the case of hispanics in America, I understand the grousing about them learning how to speak english which I do agree more of them should make an effort to do.But on the other hand when people have hackles raised about pressing 1 for english when they call somewhere, I find that stupid, not all people speak english so a reasonable effort should be made to accomodate them as they integrate. People complain about immigrants living in their own hamlets but when immigrants and minorities move into neighbourhoods, one of the first things that happens is white flight.

Anyway I'm going to stop rambling now and go outside to integrate on this fine Labor Day Holiday....

Guess Who?!

No excuses by my lazy ass for not posting in eons, other than life, fb and twitter.
The Olympics are here and I have to admit that I havent been paying as much attention as I can. Although I did catch that hot mess discussion that went down about Jason Dunford and bro. Peeps need to get their minds right, him being white does not make him any less Kenyan than I am esp since he is born and raised and not a transplant! Sheesh white skin causes too many issues in Africa. I have to give him props for going as far as he did.

Now onto the whole officials issue, Kenyan sports officials are notorious for using sports meets as an excuse to go gallavanting on the government tab. I had a friend when I was in school who missed going to the all African Games so that an official could go, disgusting to say the least.

Anyway it took me a while but six months back I decided to finally get out of the stone age and get a smartphone. Amazing how attached you can get to it, can't remember how I lived without all that info at my fingertips. Heck I even have a blogger app. Now to get this blog mojo back.....

So one of my fave stores Whole Foods has Crunchie!!!! Taste exactly just like home!!!!!! And yes that's whole nut up there too! #sweettooth

What In The World?!

It's been almost 4 months since I posted?! This is inexcusable on every level! Anyway since I have now joined the smartphone era. Yes I have been rolling around with a normal phone for the longest, so I had to get to a comp to blog. But now since I have joined the new century. There is going to be lots lots more to be shared....

Tuesday......

Black Friday just passed me by. The funny thing is that even after all my years here in America, I have only gone out for 2 Black Fridays. In a nutshell if you are not in the know this is the time when retailers in an effort to have their accounting books be in the black rather than the red, have mega sales and bargains to shift as much as possible and maximize profits.

As my life experience has shown me, throw up the sign SALE and they come running, throw in the consumerist attitude and you end up with chaos. Among the documented incidents this year was a woman who pepper sprayed people in a store and in another store a man collapsed of a heart attack and people just walked around him so that they could get deals. Maybe it's just me but getting in the trouble with the law or walking past someone dying just to get a deal means there is something fundamentally wrong with people. Or who knows maybe it's just me expecting too much of the human race.....

Anyway the silly season is here. Bah humbug!!!! Closes door and puts up sign GONE FOR THE HOLIDAYS

Guess Who?????

Damn?! 3 months since I have posted anything. I am more than ashamed of myself! I blame it all on work, facebook and twitter.

Anyway the Occupy Wall Street is in full swing out here so Im planning on visiting my local chapter tomorrow to get some pics. At long last folk in America are growing balls and practicing civil disobedience instead of mumbling in the dark.

I also came across this audio clip that seems to have gone down on Classic FM or some other Kenyan radio station. I have to say that Kenyan radio is off the chain, had that happened here, somebody would have been out of a job real quick and some idiot would be suing claiming they have been traumatized. You know people out here will sue over anything and everything!

So another one bites the dust aka Ghaddafi or whoever you choose to spell his name. Even though the way he passed away and the parading of the pics leaves a bad taste in my mouth, I do hope the Libyan people do get a government model that works for them instead of falling into the chaos like of what is now Iraq in addition to not being screwed over by the big oil companies. No matter what people say I always believe if there was no oil in Libya, NATO and other world agencies would not have gotten involved at all!

Last but not least I had some Kenyans of mine who pulled a super hood stunt. They were behind on their rent like a month or so, and instead of working something out decided to move in the middle of the night. I thought that was funny because the sad thing is that in the States they don't play when it comes to paying their rent. I can see them being sued for it and also being plastered on their credit making it hard for them to rent anywhere decent. But on the flip side with it being the recession most peoples' credit is down the toilet anyway.

Now back to reality.......
