Gay Teletubby?

I was doing some research on the net when I ran into an article highlighting that one of the teletubbies may be gay.I never could watch more then 3 minutes of that programme, putting an electric drill through my ear would feel much better.Frankly I think that inserting any sort of sexual cues in childrens' programming is despicable but on the other hand it could have been a misunderstanding.Anyway here is the article. When did things get so complicated?

I was an unshamed grown up fan of the Teletubbies when it first hit our airwaves in 1996/7.

In all the episodes of Teletubbies I do not recall a moment when Tinky Winky decided to "come out of his closest". The article you refer to doesn't mention any either.

Indeed Tinky Winky carried a handbag and somehow it was concluded that Tinky Winky was a man and then oddly enough a man who carries a handbag is gay.

My understanding of it was adults, with their own warped understanding of gender roles and sexuality forcefully placed Tinky Winky into their closest of homophobia before outing him.

This program was aimed at children who until they are corrupted by the prejudices that adults harbour were and still are quite happy to accept Tinky Winky for he his; a purple dancing hand bag carrying Tubby toasting being from a land over the hills.

In the even that Tinky Winky was/is gay - I fail to see why it is wrong for children to watch him.

Well I do agree with you in that sometimes that things can be taken out of context but if the makers of teletubbies did this on purpose then it would be reprehensible.Children have very malleable minds and the media should not know that whenever they make childrens programming....
