Free!!!!!

I am done with my last final but before I talk about that to you Manure United ( Man U ) fans out there BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!And to think that you were once calling yourselves one of the greatest teams in Europe.right now Manure are 15m pounds out of pocket and no UEFA cup to boot.Anyway enough of that.I finished my last final today!!!I know that I am going to pass but not as well as I could have but I will not dwell on that dont wanna spoil my evening.I made the mistake of putting my heinikens in my stuff that I gave my sis to take to ATL so I only had one Corona that I had yesterday and now I am going to drink the lone Tusker that had starred in the pic some posts back.It seems there is a Kenyan jamaa coming here next sem that will be a welcome change coz I am tired of being bila Kenyan jamaa company.Let's just hope he is a lively whippersnapper I need some excitement up in here!
I was puttering around the net and I found this video.I dedicate it to nick. You need Quiktime to view it.http://littlelostrobot.com/videos/robot_humps_small.mov.
Oh I was talking to my good pal Lu as we were walking out of one of our exams and she tells me how she is tired of working full time and would like to get married so she can stay at home as a housewife.I told her that many a man would love to do the same thing but guess what, people would say that we are lazy.Besides I told her that her feminist sisters hadnt been campaigning for equal pay, good working conditions and that kinda stuff so she can stay at home.Lu isnt on her own there was an article in the NY times about how more and more gals in Ivy league universities are planning on putting marriage first and career a far far second.Good for them but what about the people who you locked out of those unis by taking their places who were going to use the knowledge they gained for research, jobs and other ways to boost the nation and society around them.I mean why waste your parents money, incur student loans and burn all that time if you aren't going to put that education to good use.You might as well have used that money to join a country club or something.People fought for you tooth and nail so you can have a chance to earn a living for yourself and gain knowledge that you could put to good use in society. And then you want to say that the PATRIACHY is dragging you down!!Pssshhhhh.....

Heh heh I'm just spoiling for a scuffle....

I think the Feminist cause wasn't fighting "tooth and nail" for equality so that women would HAVE to go to work but so that women could have the CHOICE. Choice of whether to work or whether to stay at home and raise the kids. And don't kid yourself; raising kids and taking care of the home is a full time job ergo most working mothers have to have help/daycare or they burn out.

Now, would you say a man who trained as a stockbroker and worked for five years at a top Wall Street firm and then realises his passion is making jewellery or designing shoes or running a mountain lodge isn't "putting his education to good use"?

Hm?

Well for me it doesnt seem fare that women can decide to stay home and men cant. All gals I meet wouldnt mind being a stay at home mum but when i tell them about having a stay at home dad (hubby) they refuse and fume when i point out the double standard. Also my pal wanted to stay at home with NO KIDS,when you have no kids staying at home IS NOT a full time job ( I have kept house and with good organisation you can have all the work finished in the early hours of the morning and this was bila the mod cons of this day and age) Well at least the man in your example did something useful for 5 years. These gals DO NOT want to work at all!!!They wanted to be able to work like the way men have to and have now realised it isn't the bed of roses they thot it was...

I am still to meet a stay at home full-time-with-no-other-activity-on the-side Kenyan or African woman for that matter. If they stay home they do something apart from looking after little darlings and cooking dinner.
So the song continues
"My mother works.
My mother's mother worked.
My mother's mother's mother worked.
and so on ad infinitum.

Pre-Colonial Africa: the entire family unit worked
Ante-bellum USA: the entire race worked.
Post Colonial Africa: We're still working."

This is not an issue I even think about. I am working as long as my bones allow me to and God help you if YOU the man want to stay home, not in mine. Get to work!!

So you see, your friend is different. She wants to be kept. I'm not talking about such people. I'm talking about legitimate stay-at-home mums. Don't taint them all with your impression of your friend.

In this day and age, of course its imperative that even when the mum stays at home, it doesn't impact negatively on the family's standard of living. Modern life being what it is, there are so many ways for women to be stay at home mums but have a career from home.

Oh and by the way, I have absolutely no problem with stay at home dads. If my income can keep us in the desired standard of living, fine. If not, if he can find a way to supplement my income from home and bake cookies for the kids' four o'clock tea, fine.

And what do you mean the man did something useful while he was working for Wall Street but not while he was designing jewellery/shoes. Wewe, hiyo white-collar-jobs-are-the-only-jobs mentality uwache nyuma. Wira ni wira.

Seems to me that in your book, there's work that's "useful" and work that's not. Please elaborate.

(Nani kama mimi??!)

At no point have I said that women do not work BUT what I am against is women who do not want to work even though they have the opportunities to do so and women have fought for them to have the opportunity but they would rather be kept by a man in this day when women should be claiming independance from men and the "patriarchy" that takes away womens independance by stressing reliance on men.Capisce?
@ Ms K
Well comparing the chics who go to Ivy league schools and the ex wall street chap do not make sense coz when he worked in wall street before going to make bling he was further the national economy and exercising what he had learnt in school, as long as his bling makes him money it is all good. But this thing of going to school for 4 years and wanting to be a house wife nimekataa!!!!After maternity leave if we can afford help we will get it and you must be working before you get kids anyhow. You chics keep on spouting about how you can have a good career and good family and I am all for it!No dead weight up in here!
